AA car insurance has warned motorists to ensure they have car insurance which covers all possible eventualities.
The cover specialist made the call after research by the company revealed some of the more peculiar claims made by drivers across the UK.
Unconventional incidents reported to the firm include a car being damaged owing to shopping trolleys falling off the back of a truck and a man whose van sank after he fell asleep while parked on the causeway of Holy Island in Northumberland.
In addition, a man claimed his car had been damaged after he sneezed and drove into a church wall.
Janet Pell, the head of AA car insurance, said: "We're used to seeing the countless conventional claims for car damage but it's always interesting to hear the more bizarre claims people make.
"It just goes to show, you need to ensure you're covered for all eventualities, however far-fetched they might seem."
The AA offers a range of financial products to consumers in the UK, including travel, life and home cover.
